Le Karlskirche

Saint Charles's Church is situated in the town square Karlsplatz It's one of the most outstanding baroque church structures found in Europe Central with a dome in the form of an elongated ellipsoid. In 1713, one year after the last great plague epidemic, Charles VI, Holy Roman Emperor, pledged to build a church for his namesake patron saint, Charles Borromeo, who was revered as a healer for plague sufferers.

Created by probably the most influential Austrian architect of the Baroque period, Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach, his son Joseph Emanuel Fischer von Erlach continued and finished the church in 1737.The church is original : the creator united diverse elements and so you can notice the resemblance with Trajan's Column and the dome of Saint Pierre in Rome, and also the Pantheon’s doors.
