La Rathausplatz

The Rathaus is a building in Vienna which serves as the seat both of the mayor and city council of the city of Vienna which also serve, in personal union, as Governor and Assembly (Landtag) of the State of Vienna..

This monument was designed by Friedrich von Schmidt between 1872 and 1883 during the construction period of the major monuments of the Ring. Its neo-Gothic style architecture is largely inspired by Brussels’s city council.

Its main tower is the second highest point of the city and its summit is one of the symbols of Vienna, the Rathausmann. The city council has its own park, the Rathauspark, and situated in front of the city’s theatre. In summer, the place "Rathausplatz" is full of tables and tourists who can enjoy international dishes sold in small kiosks. At nightfall, Arkadenhof, the central square hosts hundreds of spectators for the screening of classical music concerts.
