La Cathédrale Saint Etienne

The Saint-Etienne's cathedral has Gothic influence but situated in the district centre of a baroque. The creation of a building Haas Haus, in 1990, provoked a scandal, its very modern style breaks the beauty of the Gothic cathedral whose arrow is reflected in the windows of the building. His drone weighs 22 tons. Its roof is made of glazed tiles, arranged in linear patterns, diagonally.

The two-headed eagle, emblem of Austria-Hungary’s Empire is represented on the roof of the East part. One represents the Hungarian monarchy and the other one the empire of Austria. The leader was emperor and king. The cathedral was rebuilt in seven years after the Second World War and reopened in 1952. It has been visited by Pope Benedict XVI in 2007.
