Le Palais du BelvédèreThe Belvedere Palace is one of the largest baroque palace in Vienna, directed by Johann Lukas von Hildebrandt from 1714 to 1723, for the Prince Eugene (Eugene of Savoy-Carignan). It is a typical viewpoint, the raised part overcoming the park is called Upper Belvedere, the Lower Belvedere, facing him, is made up of an orangery and stables. It now hosts a museum, including the collection Gustav Klimt, considered by many as the most interesting part of the palace. Their decoration develops esoteric allusions. The lowest garden evokes the Four Elements, the medium, the Parnassus (Mountain Muses) and the highest the residence of gods, Olympus. At the top of the gardens, the Upper Belvedere presents a facade highly developed, with oriental influences. Built to serve as a framework for dazzling celebrations organized by its owner, it was even more than the Lower Belvedere, and had to testify the greatness of Prince Eugene. In addition to the sumptuousness of its chapel, the vestibule of the Atlanteans or the Great Hall of Marble, its visit enables to discover the treasures of the Art Gallery Austrian of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The Lower Belvedere is where the prince Eugene of Savoy lived and became now the museum of the Baroque art in Austria. |
